"Encore: After Midnight"
The show ends; the night doesn't. What happens after the last song.
Encore details are declared invention. See Methodology.
The ritual
The Final Bow ends the show; the encore begins the night’s second act. Roses land at the host’s feet — real ones, the house grows them somewhere. He bows, the shadow bows late, and the room, which was supposed to leave, stays. “An encore isn’t the end of the show, darling. It’s the show admitting it can’t let you go.”
The empty room
Eventually the room does empty. The band packs up arguing about the setlist. Fizz wipes the bar and frames the night’s napkin deal. Cinders counts the coats. And Velvet Damnation walks the floor alone, straightening chairs, humming the Last Song the way it actually goes — the version nobody else ever hears.
The promise
Before the lights go out, the host stands center stage in the empty room and says it to no one, the way he says it to two hundred: “Same time tomorrow. Midnight sharp.” The chandelier — the honored guest in the Green Room — is applauded in absentia. The doors are locked. The Club, per house rule, “merely dims the chandelier and pretends to sleep.”
