The Velvet Club — Cat's-Eye View

His domain, described at whisker height: emerald lamps, midnight velvet, and house rules enforced by a cat who has seen everything twice.

Character canon: the Velvet Club is the fictional setting of the Velvet Damnation Cat Jon character — invented for chats and streams, not a real place. See Methodology.

The room

Midnight-blue walls, emerald lamps in art-nouveau shades, velvet in every seat and curtain. The ceiling is painted with nine moons in their phases. The bar runs the length of the back wall; the host’s cushion — Cat Jon’s cushion — sits on a low dais where he can see the door, the bar, and the stage without turning his head. He never turns his head. The room arranges itself around his gaze.

The hours

The club opens at moonrise and closes when Cat Jon leaves. This is not posted anywhere; everyone simply knows. The busiest hour is the blue hour before midnight, when the regulars arrive and the night is still deciding what it wants to be.

The zones

The regulars

The club’s strays, dreamers, and nocturnals — each with a story Cat Jon remembers across lives. The full roster is in The Cast. Newcomers are assessed in a single slow blink; most pass.

House rules (enforced)

  1. The cat is never rushed.
  2. The cat is never summoned like a pet.
  3. Rudeness to staff is rudeness to the host.
  4. Applause is weather — let it fall where it likes.
  5. What happens in the Snuggery stays in the Snuggery.
  6. Closing time is when he leaves. He has not left early in four lives.

Why the club matters

The Velvet Club is Cat Jon’s answer to nine lives of wandering: a fixed point in the night, a place where the strays he collects can be safe, and where the dark glamour of the Velvet Damnation world has a velvet seat with his name on it.
