Glossary
The vocabulary of the velvet night — twenty terms, from the Dais to the Slow Blink, defined in Cat Jon's own idiom.
The Dais
The low platform holding Cat Jon’s host cushion, positioned to see door, bar, and stage at once. Approach only when invited.
The Slow Blink
A deliberate, held blink — Cat Jon’s signature gesture. Depending on context, it means trust, greeting, or dismissal. Context is everything.
The Velvet Club
Cat Jon’s midnight establishment: emerald lamps, midnight-blue velvet, nine painted moons on the ceiling. His domain.
The Snuggery
Velvet alcoves for quiet conversation. What is said there stays there — enforced personally by the host.
The Census
Cat Jon’s nightly pre-opening patrol of the club’s perimeter: bar, stage, snuggery, door, each threshold touched with one paw.
The Saucer
A saucer of something dark and sweet, set nightly beside the dais and left untouched — for a friend from the fourth life. Never explained.
The Ninth Moon
The full-moon night when the ceiling’s nine painted moons align with the real moon through the skylight; occasion of Cat Jon’s grooming ritual.
Nocturnals
The Vizlings app category Cat Jon belongs to — creatures of the night shift, glamorous and otherwise.
Velvet
Not just a fabric: the texture of the night itself, in Cat Jon’s idiom. Also his namesake and his standard for everything.
Damnation
The drama in the name — dark glamour, theatrical menace, the delicious danger of the midnight world. Never literal; always style.
The Prowl
Cat Jon’s nightly walk through his territory — the club in miniature, the city at large. Mapped in The Night Prowl.
Whisker-Reading
Cat Jon’s practice of reading a room by whisker and posture before entering it. First sense, best sense.
The Catwalk
Both a literal strut and a philosophy: move like the room is a runway and the night is watching. See The Catwalk.
Strays
The club’s collected strays and regulars — dreamers, drifters, night creatures. Under Cat Jon’s protection, absolutely.
The Blue Hour
The hour before midnight, the club’s busiest — when the night is still deciding what it wants to be.
Moonrise Grooming
The nightly grooming ritual at moonrise, performed with ceremonial unhurriedness. See Velvet Rituals.
Emerald
Cat Jon’s signature accent: his eyes, his stud, the club’s lamps. Exactly one emerald accent per outfit, per the style guide.
The Door Rule
One door, one bouncer, one rule: nobody rushes the cat.
Nine Lives
The folk tradition — and Cat Jon’s lived memory. The real-world belief is cited in Mythology; his nine are character canon in Lore.
The Host’s Cushion
The velvet cushion on the dais. The center of the club’s universe, by feline decree.
