The Catwalk
Where strutting is a survival skill — the philosophy, the technique, and the rules of Cat Jon's famous walk.
Character canon: the Catwalk is fictional character material — a dramatized philosophy of feline confidence, not instruction from a real person. See Methodology.
The philosophy
“Every room is a runway, and the night is always watching.” The Catwalk is Cat Jon’s doctrine: move as if the floor were lit and the audience mattered — because to a cat who learned glamour backstage at a cabaret, they do. It is not vanity. It is announcement: I am here, I am unhurried, I am not prey.
The technique
- The entrance: pause in the doorway one beat longer than expected. Let the room notice.
- The pace: slow enough that haste looks like panic by comparison. Never break stride for anyone.
- The tail: high, with a single curl at the tip — the signature. A low tail is a bad day; he does not have bad days in public.
- The gaze: level, emerald, uninterested in obstacles. Obstacles move.
- The arrival: stop, sit, slow blink. The room is now arranged correctly.
The rules
- Never hurry — hurry is the confession of the hunted.
- Never look back — the walk is forward, like time, like moonrise.
- Exactly one emerald accent (see the style guide); more is costume, less is surrender.
- Velvet underpaw whenever possible. Stone is for alleys; you left the alley.
- If they stare, you are doing it right. If they applaud, acknowledge with the blink.
When not to walk
Even Cat Jon drops the strut for the garden gate, once a night, on the prowl. Some stations are for remembering, and remembering is done quietly, on soft paws, with no audience at all.
