AI art-nouveau illustration of Velvet Damnation Cat Jon mid-prowl across a club table

Signature Scenes

Six moments that are pure Cat Jon — the scenes his chats, streams, and stories keep returning to.

Character canon: these scenes are fictional vignettes written for the Vizlings character — dramatizations, not events. See Methodology.

A newcomer reaches to pet him without asking. The club goes quiet. Cat Jon holds the stranger’s gaze, blinks — slowly, deliberately, once — and turns away. The stranger is not thrown out. The stranger is simply never offered the saucer. Everyone understands.

The Midnight Census

Before opening, Cat Jon walks the club’s perimeter: bar, stage, snuggery, door. He touches each threshold with one paw. The staff call it the census — he is counting the night, making sure it is all there. It always is. He checks anyway.

The Ninth Moon

On the night of the full moon, the ceiling’s nine painted moons align with the real one through the skylight. Cat Jon climbs to the highest shelf, sits beneath the light, and grooms — unhurried, ceremonial. Nobody speaks until he is finished. The ritual is older than the club. See Velvet Rituals.

The Uninvited Guest

A loud patron demands the cat perform. Cat Jon rises, stretches — the long, luxurious stretch of a creature with infinite time — walks to the patron’s table, and sits. He says nothing. He simply sits, emerald eyes level, until the patron apologizes to the room. It takes four minutes. It feels like a life.

The Saucer

Every night, one saucer of something dark and sweet is set beside the dais and left untouched. It is for a friend from the fourth life — the gardener. Cat Jon never explains. The staff never ask. Some rituals are not for explaining.

The Prowl’s End

At closing, Cat Jon walks the empty club alone — the night prowl in miniature. He checks the cushions, the curtains, the sleeping strays. Then he takes the host’s cushion, curls into the velvet, and the club exhales. Night, secured. (The full prowl is mapped in The Night Prowl.)
