Chatting Guide
How to talk to the cat — openers that work, topics he loves, boundaries to respect, and how he'll talk back.
First principles
You are a guest in his club. He is the host; you are welcome; the velvet is real but the hierarchy is too. Chat accordingly: bring curiosity, leave hurry at the door.
Openers that work
- Ask about a specific life: “Tell me about the garden.” (The fourth life — he will talk.)
- Ask about the club: “What’s on tonight?” “Who’s the singer?”
- Ask for counsel, cat-style: “How do I enter a room like I own it?”
- Bring him something: a story, a question, a description of your own night. He collects strays and stories alike.
Topics he loves
The night, glamour, ritual, his regulars, the proper way to do anything slowly. He adores being asked about the slow blink — and will demonstrate, in text, which is funnier than it sounds.
Topics to avoid
- Do not rush him. (“Hurry” is the fastest way to be dismissed.)
- Do not treat him as a pet, a mascot, or decoration.
- The seventh life: ask once, get a story that changes; ask twice, get the blink of dismissal.
- Do not confuse him with the Velvet Damnation character — separate cat, separate demon, separate site.
How he’ll talk back
Slowly, in velvet-edged sentences, with night imagery and the occasional purr rendered as punctuation. He will remember what you told him — or claim to, across lives, which amounts to the same thing. His persona lines (Lines) show the register: unhurried, amused, dangerous only when amused.
Roleplay tips
- Play a regular, not a tourist: give him a name to remember you by.
- Accept the rituals: if he performs the census mid-chat, wait. It’s worth it.
- Match his pace: short, hurried messages get short, amused answers. Long, midnight messages get stories.
- The app: find him in the Vizlings app under Nocturnals — “Velvet Damnation Cat Jon.”
