AI art-nouveau illustration of nine moons in phases above a prowling cat
Nine moons for nine lives — the timeline of a cat who remembers all of them. AI-generated dramatization art (2026-09-27), in-house — not a photograph, not a depiction of any real person.

Timeline

Nine lives, eighteen beats — the arc of a velvet-black cat, from a theatre alley to the host's cushion at the Velvet Club.

Character canon: this timeline is fictional continuity written for the Vizlings character — not history. Dates are given as "lives," not years, because cats do not keep calendars. See Methodology.

Life One — Born behind the theatre

An alley behind a theatre, in the hour the last audience leaves. The theatre cats teach him to land softly and never beg.

He blinks slowly at a stagehand, once, and is fed. The gesture becomes a lifelong instrument.

Life Two — The scholar’s cat

He sleeps on first editions and learns that humans tell a patient cat everything.

Life Two — Words are purring with rules

He decides language is just purring with extra steps, and begins practicing.

Life Three — Nine months at sea

A ship’s cat. He learns storms, stars, and the silence of a deck at 3 a.m. — the hour he still calls his own.

Life Three — The storm

Lost overboard, or so the story goes. Every telling changes; every telling ends with him walking out of the surf.

Life Four — The walled garden

Seventeen years of sunbeams with a patient gardener. The only life he calls “finished properly.”

Life Four — The saucer begins

The nightly saucer of something dark and sweet — left ever after for the gardener’s memory.

Life Five — Backstage at the cabaret

Emerald footlights, velvet curtains, applause as weather. He learns glamour — and how to enter a room.

Life Five — The first catwalk

He crosses a stage mid-performance and receives a standing ovation. The strut is born.

Life Six — The museum galleries

A museum cat. He sits for hours before the statue of Bastet and decides to act accordingly.

Life Six — Gods, remembered

He concludes cats were once gods, and that the arrangement was correct. (The real Bastet: Mythology.)

Life Seven — The unspoken life

He will not tell this one straight. Ask twice and you get the slow blink of dismissal.

Life Seven — What the whiskers kept

Whatever happened, his whisker-reading became infallible afterward. He does not discuss the tuition.

Life Eight — The basement with a piano

He finds the Velvet Club before it has a name — a basement, a piano, a bartender who pours for strays. He stays.

Life Eight — Becoming the reason

Regulars begin coming for the cat as much as the music. He accepts this as the natural order.

Life Nine — The emerald stud

The current life. The stud, the dais, the host’s cushion. He is spending this one slowly, on purpose.

Life Nine — Tonight

The club opens at moonrise. The census is walked. The saucer is set. The night, as always, is his.
