Missions
The three missions that made the StarTeam's reputation — flagship ops at their finest. All fictional.
Fiction note: these missions are invented stories. Full after-action detail for every recorded mission lives in the Missions Archive.
The Sable Nebula rescue (YC 231)
Seventeen Concord ships, caught by a stellar flare inside a collapsing stellar nursery, with rescue windows measured in hours. Venn’s plan is the lore’s textbook example of his command style: the Meridian goes in first to map the flare corridors, the team shepherds the trapped ships out in three waves, and every wave has a pre-planned abort route. Seventeen ships out. Zero losses. The Admiralty’s commendation calls it “the finest rescue in Concord history”; Venn’s own log entry, in the lore, reads: “Seventeen. All of them. That’s the whole entry.” The mission established the StarTeam’s standing order — nobody gets left behind — as doctrine rather than aspiration.
The Kessian standoff (YC 232)
The war with the Kessian Marauders had burned for six years when both fleets converged on Karthos. Venn’s order is the most famous in the lore: he took the Meridian — one ship — and parked it directly between the two fleets, broadcast on all channels, and refused to move. For nineteen hours the standoff held while Selnari shuttled between flagships. When both sides stood down, the war was over, and it had ended without a shot fired from the Meridian’s guns. Warlord Drevok has never forgiven Venn — or, the lore hints, never forgotten the courage it took. See Allies & Rivals.
Operation First Light (YC 233)
First contact with the Verdant Expanse colonies — a dozen settled worlds the Concord had lost track of centuries earlier. Venn went in unarmed, as the lore tells it, with Selnari and a single shuttle, and opened with the truth: what the Concord wanted, what it feared, and what it was offering. The treaty that resulted still holds in the lore’s present and is taught at the academy as the model first-contact protocol. It is also the mission Venn cites when asked about his proudest moment — not the rescue, not the standoff, but the day nobody had to be brave.
The mission pattern
Across all three, the lore shows the same Venn signature: decide at speed, commit fully, protect the withdrawal, and bring everyone home. The Meridian is always first in and the plan always has an exit. Cadets study these three missions the way sailors once studied Nelson’s battles — for the decisions, not the drama. Deeper tactical breakdowns are on Abilities, Explained; the full mission list is in the Missions Archive.
