The official Floor 88 lexicon. Definitions are in-character lore — do not cite in actual meetings (or do; we’re not your HR).

| Synergy | The mystical force by which 1 + 1 = 3. The Bussinessman’s religion, hobby, and answer to everything. |
| Bandwidth | A finite resource everyone claims to lack and he claims to have infinitely. Audited annually by the Bureau of Bandwidth. |
| Circle back | To return to a topic later. He never left the circle, so this is other people’s problem. |
| Deep dive | A thorough investigation. He once deep-dived the office vending machine. Findings: “robust.” |
| Low-hanging fruit | Easy wins. He owns the orchard (see the Office of Low-Hanging Fruit). |
| Move the needle | To make measurable progress. His needle only moves up and to the right. |
| Take this offline | To discuss later, privately. Complicated by the fact that, per him, “this is offline.” |
| Boots on the ground | Staff in the field. His boots are Italian leather and have never touched actual ground (the jet has stairs). |
| Ducks in a row | Things organized. His ducks are brass, lined up on the mantel, and named after quarters. |
| Win-win | An outcome where everyone wins. His preferred — some say only — kind of deal. |
| Thought leader | Someone whose thoughts lead. He leads his thoughts in single file, every morning, at 6 AM. |
| Disrupt | To shake up an industry. He disrupted the mailroom by sorting with “destiny.” |
| Pivot | A strategic change of direction. He pivoted once, in 1989, from the mail cart to the corner office. |
| Golden parachute | A lavish exit package. His is actual gold. It has never been used. Full story. |
| Corner office | The prize. His has wraparound windows and a ficus. Full story. |
| Power suit | Navy pinstripe, broad shoulders. Wearing one increases closing rates by a reported 400% (source: him). |
| Hostile takeover | Acquiring a company against its will. His was so friendly the lawyers wept. Full story. |
| Q4 | The fourth quarter. Also, per his physical, his blood type. |
| KPI | Key performance indicator. His favorite KPI is “vibes,” which are, he insists, “up.” |
| Ficus Friday | The weekly watering of the lobby money tree. A company holiday in all but name. |
