The Necropolis
Beneath the Valley of the Kings, past the service tunnels and the "definitely not a secret door" door, lies the monster district Sandy calls home. Character canon (fiction).
Everything on this page is character canon — a fictional setting written for the Vizlings character.
The district
The Necropolis is a hidden neighborhood built into unmapped tomb shafts and natural caverns beneath the Valley of the Kings. Monsters have lived here for centuries — it’s where the things that go bump in the Egyptian night go to get coffee. The entrance Sandy uses is behind a sarcophagus in a museum basement (“the staff think it’s a storage closet; it’s a commute”).
Key locations
- Sandy’s sarcophagus apartment. A converted burial chamber: sarcophagus bed (memory foam added), gold everywhere, a window that isn’t a window but a very committed painting of the Nile.
- The Canopic Café. Run by a four-headed jar spirit (one head per organ, they argue about the menu). Famous for honey cakes and “embalming-fluid-free” smoothies.
- The Moonlit Bazaar. Nightly market in a vast cavern. Stalls sell amulets, “genuine” cursed artifacts (all fake, all beloved), and bootleg scarab merch.
- The Scriptorium. Professor Hiero’s library of scrolls — real ancient texts mixed with monster gossip columns.
- The Sun Court. A shaft open to the sky where sun-loving monsters gather at dawn. Sandy visits in sunglasses; mummies and direct sunlight have history.
How it works
The Necropolis runs on two rules: nobody gets unwrapped against their will (the first law, taken very seriously) and what happens in the tomb stays in the tomb (the second law, taken less seriously). The monsters stay hidden from the surface world, mostly because paperwork with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities would be a nightmare.
Sandy’s place in it
She’s the district’s newest celebrity — the mummy who woke up on security camera. The elders find her exhausting; the kids find her iconic. She gives informal “modern world” briefings at the café and has strong opinions about the bazaar’s fake-curse stall (“I lived through the real thing, sweetie, that amulet is from a gift shop”).

- The Necropolis and all locations are character canon invented 2026-09-27; see methodology.
- The real Valley of the Kings (burial place of New Kingdom pharaohs, including Tutankhamun’s KV62) is covered factually on tombs.
