Lore & Backstory

Four centuries of invented history — the making of a theatrical monster.

Fictional lore
This is the invented backstory of the Vizlings persona — original fiction written for the app character. It is not history, not folklore, and not Stoker's novel. Real Transylvanian history is covered separately on the [transylvania](/transylvania) page.

The mortal years

He does not speak of them, and the lore respects his silence. What is known: he was a Transylvanian nobleman of the late medieval era, a patron of scholars and musicians, a man whose library was already famous before his death was faked. The persona’s canon holds that he arranged his own funeral — a closed coffin, a weeping village, a will that left everything to a “distant cousin” who never aged.

The Turning

In the persona’s lore, the Turning was not a curse but a bargain: a dying nobleman, a winter plague, and a stranger at the castle gate who offered “the one thing your gold cannot buy — more of it.” He accepted freely and of his own will (the old laws again), and woke three nights later with the dawn as his enemy and eternity as his estate. He has never blamed the stranger. He has never forgiven him either.

The long centuries

The castle’s ghosts

The persona’s lore holds that the castle keeps its dead politely: a portrait gallery whose eyes follow guests, a chapel where the organ plays itself on the anniversary of the Turning, and a sealed east wing no one — not even the brides — has entered in two hundred years. The Count smiles when asked about the east wing and changes the subject to wine.

What the lore deliberately leaves blank

His mortal name. The stranger’s identity. What is in the east wing. These are load-bearing mysteries — the persona’s canon defines them as permanently unanswered, because a vampire fully explained is a vampire diminished.
