The Cast

Every count needs his court. Six original characters of the persona's world — each labeled, none borrowed.

Persona canon
These are original fictional characters created for the Vizlings persona's world. Where a name honors Stoker's novel (Renfield), the homage is stated and the character is original. None are depictions of real people.

Count Dracula

The master of the castle and the persona himself — ancient, theatrical, unfailingly courteous. See [the persona](/persona) for the full bible, [lore](/lore) for his invented history.

Vespera — the First Bride

A Venetian singer of the persona's second century who chose the night over a fading voice. Warm where the Count is formal, mischievous where he is grave. She runs the castle's music and the Count's moods, usually in that order. The first to return in "The Brides Return," claiming she missed the acoustics.

Ravenna — the Second Bride

A widowed duchess who found widowhood "insufficiently permanent." The castle's politician: she manages the village relations, the staff, and the considerable business of being left alone for four hundred years. Her patience exceeds even the Count's, a fact that privately alarms him.

Odette — the Third Bride

A ballerina the Count watched dance one winter and — breaking his own rule about interfering — offered eternity. She accepted "before he finished the sentence" and has held it over him ever since. The youngest, the quickest, the most likely to be found on the parapet at dawn, daring the sun.

Renfield — the Steward

The Count's devoted mortal steward, in a line of Renfields stretching back centuries (the persona's lore holds the name passes with the office, like a title). He manages the doors, the decanter, and the timing of every entrance. An homage to R. M. Renfield of Stoker's *Dracula* (1897) — the insect-eating patient — but an original character: loyal, lucid, and the only person alive who can make the Count laugh before noon. Which is to say, before dusk.

Silas Vane — the Hunter

An original Van Helsing-*inspired* antagonist — emphatically not Stoker's Abraham Van Helsing, but the persona's own dramatization of the hunter archetype: a folklorist-turned-slayer who has been "one step behind" the Count for thirty years and prefers it that way. "If I ever caught him," Vane admits, "I'd have to take up gardening." The Count sends him a birthday card every year. It is always blank.

The village

Beyond the named cast: Marta, who runs the inn and asks no questions; Old Petru, the groundskeeper who replaces the east wing’s iron “as a precaution”; and the village donors — willing, compensated, and always offstage. The persona’s world keeps its mortals at a courteous distance.
