World Guide

The universe the legend lives in — the Pact, its worlds, its enemies, and the places that carry the Guardian's name.

Everything below is fictional — the StarTeam universe, invented for this fan reference.

The Pact

Three hundred years before the First Vigil, the free star systems signed the Pact: mutual defense, open trade lanes, and a council to arbitrate the wars that kept breaking out over mining rights. The Pact is not an empire — it is a promise, written down, and the StarTeam is the promise’s strong right arm. The Guardian’s Oath and the Pact’s charter rhyme on purpose: the sentinel’s vow is the alliance’s founding idea, made into a person.

The systems

The Pact spans dozens of settled systems, but a handful matter to the Guardian’s story:

The Shatterer

The enemy that will not stay gone. The Shatterer is a war fleet — or a succession of them, wearing the same name and the same black banners — that has broken against the Pact three times across the cycles. Its doctrine is simple: break the defenders, then break what they defend. It has never once broken the Guardian. The champion, the fleet’s greatest warrior, has made the duel personal across two thousand cycles; the allies and rivals page follows that thread.

The Aegis Hall and the Star-Vault

The team’s headquarters world holds the Aegis Hall — round table, ring of shields, the Guardian standing at the head — and beneath it, the Star-Vault: the sealed reliquary of the fallen Obsidian Wardens. Eleven broken shields, the Oath scroll, the first beacon lamp. The Guardian is the Vault’s keeper and its only living exhibit. Recruits tour the Vault on their first day; the Guardian insists on guiding them personally. “These were the wall before me,” the sentinel says. “I am just the part of it that is still standing.”

The Bastion and the fleet

The StarTeam’s fleet is built for speed and strike power — every ship but one. The Bastion, the Guardian’s personal vessel, is built to arrive: heavy armor, emerald thrusters, and a bridge designed around a single standing position, because the Guardian has never once sat down on a bridge. The ship-mind Meridian-7 runs the vessel and keeps the mission log; together they have never missed a rendezvous. (Starship and tech covers the Bastion in full.)

The Beacon-Keeper tradition

Every settlement the Guardian has shielded lights a beacon on the anniversary of its rescue. The network is unofficial, uncoordinated, and enormous — four thousand beacons, each sending word to the Aegis Hall every cycle, each receiving an answer from the Guardian personally. Pact cartographers have started using the beacon network as a backup navigation grid. The Guardian calls it “the nicest accident of my career.”

Why this universe works for the Guardian

The StarTeam universe is built around a single design idea: a galaxy big enough that one person can’t save it, and one sentinel stubborn enough to try anyway. The Pact provides the scale; the Shatterer provides the pressure; the Guardian provides the proof that the promise at the center of it all — someone will stand between you and the dark — is true.
