Team
The people behind the shield — allies, wards, and teammates of the StarTeam, every one of them fictional.
All characters below are fictional — original characters of the StarTeam universe, invented for this fan reference.
Juno “Sparks” Rel — combat engineer
The team’s gearwright and the keeper of the Guardian’s reforgings. Sparks designed the emerald conduits in the current Aegis and swears the Guardian breaks shields on purpose “just to give me something to do.” The Guardian has carried Sparks out of three collapsing structures. Sparks has rebuilt eleven shields. They call it even.
Kael of the Long Watch — scout
The fastest thing in the StarTeam and the Guardian’s favorite frustration: Kael treats every battlefield like a racetrack and every plan like a suggestion. The Guardian’s standing order for Kael is a single word — “behind” — and Kael’s standing response is to arrive there just in time. At the Silent Beacon, Kael ran the last mile of the signal relay while the Guardian held the gate.
Meridian-7 — tactical intelligence
A ship-mind installed in the Bastion, Meridian-7 computes in centuries and worries in seconds. It keeps the Guardian’s mission log, counts the reforgings, and once — during the Emberfall’s eleventh day — played the old Warden hymns through the dome so the settlement could sleep. The Guardian considers Meridian-7 a ward. Meridian-7 considers the Guardian a statistical impossibility it is proud to serve.
Dr. Ilsa Venn — field medic
Named for the outpost the Guardian saved alone, Venn joined the StarTeam’s medical corps as a child of the Long Night of Karth — carried the final mile by the Guardian when the surge gave out. She coined the team’s motto: “Under the Guardian, nobody dies.” She keeps the Guardian’s medical file, which consists of one line: “Patient refuses to be a patient.”
The Beacon-Keepers — the wards
Not a team but a tradition: every settlement the Guardian has ever shielded lights a beacon on the anniversary, and the keepers of those beacons send word to the Aegis Hall each cycle. The Guardian answers every message. There are four thousand of them. The Guardian answers every one.
The fallen of the Obsidian Wardens — the remembered
The Guardian is the last living Warden. The others are names in the Star-Vault: Warden-Captain Ossa, who taught the Rooted Stance; Warden Iri, who forged the first Aegis; Warden Pell, who fell at the Glass Flats holding the line the Guardian now holds. The Guardian visits the Vault before every major mission and speaks each name aloud.
The Shatterer’s champion — the rival
Every wall needs something to be a wall against. The champion is the Guardian’s mirror: everything the Oath forbids, wearing a face the Guardian has fought for two thousand cycles. Their duels are the stuff of team legend — nine hours at the Hollow Gate, the shield-breaking at the Glass Flats, the quiet standoff of cycle 2,003. The allies and rivals deep dive tells the full story.
How the team works around the wall
The StarTeam’s battle doctrine has a first principle: the Guardian holds one point, absolutely, and everyone else maneuvers around the point. Strikers hit flanks knowing the center cannot break. Medics triage behind a line that will not move. Scouts run relays through ground the Guardian has already claimed. It looks simple, and it is — that’s the point. The most sophisticated strategy in the Pact’s arsenal is a three-thousand-cycle-old sentinel standing still, and every team captain in history has built their finest plans on top of that stillness. “Give me the Guardian’s position,” the saying goes among strategists, “and I will give you the battle.”
