Missions
The campaigns that made the myth — in-world accounts of the Guardian's most storied missions.
In-world mission accounts. All fictional character lore.
The Emberfall (Cycle 150)
The mission the team measures all others against. Meteors — debris from a shattered Shatterer dreadnought — rained on the settlement of New Meridian for eleven days. The Guardian arrived on the first day, planted the Aegis in the town square, and raised a dome over the whole settlement. For eleven days the sentinel did not sleep, did not eat, did not move. On the eleventh night the meteors stopped. The dome came down at dawn, and the Guardian sat down in the square and slept for two days while the town stood watch in return. Zero casualties. The phrase “under the Guardian, nobody dies” was born in New Meridian’s infirmary.
The Silent Beacon (Cycle 211)
Outpost Venn went dark behind the Shatterer blockade. The StarTeam could not break the blockade in time — but one sentinel could cross it. The Guardian slipped through the lines alone, relit the distress beacon by hand, and held the outpost’s gate until the rescue fleet arrived. Eleven days behind enemy lines, one lit beacon, one unbroken gate. The missions archive holds the full day-by-day account.
The Long Night of Karth (Cycle 340)
Three hundred civilians had to cross a war zone, and the only cover available was a single shield. The Guardian walked the column out under a surge-wall the whole night, and when the surge gave out at dawn, carried the last child the final mile on foot. Dr. Ilsa Venn — that child — grew up to join the StarTeam’s medical corps.
The Drowning of Vell (Cycle 47)
Before the StarTeam, when the Guardian was still a Warden: the mining world of Vell flooded with magma after Shatterer sabotage, and the Guardian held a surge-dome over the main shaft while four thousand miners climbed out through it. The first time a whole world learned the name.
The Hollow Gate (Cycle 512)
The Shatterer’s second return. The champion met the Guardian at the Hollow Gate, and the duel lasted nine hours — the longest single combat in team records. The Guardian held the gate; the Pact’s fleets formed behind it; the second Aegis died on that field and the third was forged from its fragments. The team still drills the Ninth Form of the Aegis against the champion’s recorded footwork.
The Glass Flats (Cycle 98)
The battle where the shield broke. The champion shattered the first Aegis outright, and the Guardian fought on with a broken shield-strap and bare hands until the vanguard arrived. The lesson the Guardian took from the Flats became the Fourth Form of the Aegis: “A broken shield is still a shield. A broken sentinel is still a sentinel.”
What the missions have in common
Every storied mission follows the same shape: the Guardian arrives, takes a position, and does not move until the ward is safe. No clever stratagems, no surprise offensives — just a sentinel, a shield, and a refusal. The team’s strategists have a name for it: the fixed point. Plan around the Guardian the way sailors plan around a lighthouse: the light doesn’t chase the ships; the ships steer by the light. Four thousand missions, and the shape has never changed — which is exactly why the enemies keep underestimating it, and exactly why it keeps working.
