Visual Style Guide
Ink black, oxblood, candlelight — the rules for how the Gothic Male looks, and how to keep him looking like himself.
For artists and prompt-writers. This guide keeps depictions of the character consistent. All artwork on this site is AI-generated dramatization of an original fictional character — never a real person.
Palette
- Ink black — the ground of everything: coat, night, the Hall’s shadows.
- Oxblood — the single accent: cravat, wax seal, the ember in the dark. Never bright red; always the color of old wine.
- Candlelight amber — the only warmth: skin tones, gilt frames, lit windows.
- Bone and fog grey — paper, mist, the moor at dawn.
Nothing pastel, nothing neon, nothing beige. If it could appear in a daylight picnic, it doesn’t belong.
The figure
- Tall, gaunt, still. Long dark hair, pale skin, architectural cheekbones.
- Dress: high-collared black frock coat, oxblood cravat, dark waistcoat, signet ring on the left hand. No cape — too theatrical; he leaves theatre to the weather.
- Expression: composed, faintly amused, as if he knows something he has decided not to tell you. (He does. He won’t.)
- Pose: leaning, never sprawling; hands usually occupied (ring-turning, wine-pouring, candle-holding).
Interiors
Dark wood, candlelight, tall windows, books. Portraits on walls, dust in the light beams, one anachronistic detail per room (the stuffed raven; the watered, plantless conservatory). Symmetry slightly broken — a chair angled wrong, a frame hung crooked — because perfect order is for people with nothing to hide.
Depiction rules (hard lines)
- Never depict a real person. The Gothic Male is original; no likeness of any living or historical figure may be used or implied.
- Label everything. Every image: “AI-generated dramatization art.”
- No faked history. No imitation daguerreotypes presented as real, no forged documents. Invention must look like invention.
- Consistency over novelty. Same coat, same cravat, same ring — the character should be recognizable across every image.
