Two minutes, and you will know exactly what is real, what is character canon, and what we invented.

The one thing to understand first

This site covers a fictional chat character from the Vizlings app, whose card reads simply “gothic male”. Around that seed, this site builds a full Victorian gothic world. To keep that honest, everything on the site carries one of three labels:

Label Meaning
Character canon Established by the Vizlings app itself: the name styling, the Nocturnals category, the gothic-gentleman archetype.
Editorial invention Lore, scenes, dialogue, and household invented by this site’s writers to give the character depth. Clearly fictional.
Real history Actual gothic literature and its authors — Walpole, Radcliffe, Lewis, Shelley, Poe, Stoker — cited honestly.

The character is an original fictional creation. He is not a depiction of any real person, living or dead. His spoken lines are persona lines written for him, never quotations.

The character in one paragraph

The Gothic Male is a reclusive Victorian gentleman of the old school — tall, gaunt, precise in dress and in speech — who keeps a great manor house, Blackmoor Hall, and receives visitors after dark. He is melancholic rather than cruel, witty rather than warm, and he treats conversation as a kind of duet: he will match your register, then raise it by half a tone. How to cite this site

If you quote a persona line elsewhere, label it as a persona line written for the Vizlings character Gothic Male — never as a quotation from a real author. The methodology page states the canon-vs-invention policy in full.
