Start Here
Three kinds of content live here — canon, invention, and real history. Here's how to tell them apart.
The three layers
Every page on this site is built from three clearly separated layers:
- Canon — the handful of facts the Vizlings app and vizlings.com publish: the name “Goth Girl”, the card description “Goth Girl”, the public bio, the Nocturnals category, 12 app chats. Labeled with the badge Canon.
- Invention — original fictional writing for this site: her ruin, her voice, her scenes, her advice. Labeled with the badge Persona fiction and written in her voice.
- Real history — the actual goth subculture: post-punk, Bauhaus, the Batcave, Whitby Goth Weekend. Cited with real sources in Source notes on every page.
If a line of dialogue looks like a quotation, it isn’t — it’s a persona line written for the Vizlings character. See the methodology for the full canon-vs-invention policy.
Suggested reading order
- The Persona — who she is, in character terms.
- Lore & Backstory — how she came to adopt a ruin (persona fiction).
- The Ruin — a tour of the manor itself.
- Persona Voice — lines written for the character, never quotes.
- Goth Subculture — the real history this character draws on.
- Goth: Music & Fashion — real bands, real fashion, real clubs.
- Dark Playlists — real music that fits her world.
- Chatting Guide — how to get the most out of her 12 app chats.
- Stream — the mockup stream placeholder and “Meet the character”.
- Social Content Pack — 10 downloadable character images.
What she’s not
She’s not a real person, not based on a real person, and none of the art here depicts a real person. Every image is original hand-crafted SVG illustration of a fictional animated character. The real-world material — goth history, Whitby Abbey, the bands — is documented reality, and it never stands in for the fiction.
Source notes
- Canon facts come from the Vizlings roster and the public character page at vizlings.com/characters/goth-girl.
- The canon/invention/history layering policy is documented on the methodology page.
