Everything you need to know about Aurum City's black-and-gold guardian — in five minutes, no prior issues required.
Who is the Golden Black hero?
An original fictional superhero from the Vizlings app (card description, verbatim: “Golden Black armor hero”). In the lore written for this site, he is Kade Mercer, a 34-year-old night-shift metallurgist at the Vanta Foundry in Aurum City. During the secret reactor meltdown called the Night of First Light, molten aurumite alloy bonded to the prototype exosuit he was testing — and to him. He walked out of the fire wearing the first black-and-gold armor.
Why black and gold?
The black plate drinks the light — the suit’s Umbra Cloak bends light around it, so he moves through the night unseen. The gold filigree isn’t decoration: it’s circuitry, aurumite channels carrying power from the Heart of Aurum, the hexagonal reactor in his chest. Black is how he hides. Gold is how he fights — and what he fights for: the idea that the city’s wealth should protect people, not just gild towers.
Where does he operate?
Aurum City, a noir port metropolis on the Blackwater estuary: black-glass towers, the Golden Span bridge, the foundry smoke of Foundry Row, the mansions of the Gilded Mile. It’s his city because it made him — and because the people who run it, like Vanta Foundry CEO Helena Voss, would take the Heart of Aurum back if they could.
Who does he fight?
Six original villains, each a dark mirror of the gold theme:
- The Gilded Mask — a gentleman thief who steals gold and leaves a coin behind.
- Rust — a corroded ex-foundryman whose nanites eat metal. The armor’s nightmare.
- Helena Voss — the magnate who ordered the core built, and the sabotage that freed it.
- Blackout — a mercenary with an EMP harness who can kill the city’s grid — and the suit.
- The Counterfeiter — forges false aurumite that poisons the power grid.
- Platinum — a rival in mirrored silver armor. Gold’s opposite number.
What does he believe?
The Golden Rule — his five-tenet code: gold protects, never hoards; never take a life; the mask serves the city; no one is expendable; leave every place brighter than he found it.
