Glossary
Every term of the saga, defined — from aurumite to the Umbra Docks. (Original fiction; see source notes.)
Aurumite
The super-dense energy alloy at the heart of the saga: transmuted from industrial waste heat by the Aurum Core, black in bulk, gold where it carries charge. The gold filigree on the armor is aurumite channeling.
The Heart of Aurum
The cracked hexagonal Aurum Core reactor seated in the armor’s chest. 60% of design output, one propagating crack, and — per Okafor — “opinions.” The suit’s power source and its doom.
The Night Foundry
The abandoned crucible hall on Foundry Row where Okafor and Mercer rebuilt the armor. Base, workshop, recharge station, and the only place the Heart ever truly rests.
The Cradle
The recharge rig in the Night Foundry. The Heart docks into it like a key; a full charge takes six hours.
Umbra Cloak
The armor’s light-bending metamaterial skin. Not invisibility — unnoticeability. Fails under EMP, nanite contact, or Heart spikes.
Aurum Sight
The visor’s full-spectrum vision: heat, stress fractures, the flicker of false aurumite. Side effect: migraines.
Golden Pulse
Concussive hard-light blasts from the palm emitters. Dialable from knockback to vault-breach.
Auric Strength
Force multiplication along the aurumite channels. Roughly 40 tons at full draw.
Gravitic Flight
Silent repulsor flight via the boot and gauntlet plates. He prefers the updrafts.
The Golden Hour
The overcharge: pushing the cracked Heart past its cap for total power at mortal risk. Done once — Issue #8. The crack is wider now.
Mark I / Mark II
The armor’s generations: the bulky foundry load-frame (retired, kept as a diagnostic cradle) and the current Aurum Armor.
Foundry Row
The industrial district; the Night Foundry’s home; Kade Mercer’s people.
The Gilded Mile
Old money’s harbor row — and Vanta Tower, Helena Voss’s seat.
The Umbra Docks
Container yards and night markets where the Blackwater meets the sea. The Mask’s territory; Delgado’s beat.
Old Aurum
Brick walk-ups and noodle shops. Kade’s walk-up; Danny’s family; the Gazette.
Halcyon Heights
New money on the north bluff. Vesper Quinn’s penthouse: all mirrors, no shadows.
The Golden Span
The great gold-lit suspension bridge across the Blackwater. Held up by the hero. Twice.
The Blackwater
The river the city sits on. Dark, fast, and — per Delgado — “the only honest thing in Aurum.”
Vanta Foundry
The company: steel in public, Project Aurum in private, Helena Voss at the top.
The Gilded Coin
The Mask’s calling card: one gold coin left at every heist.
False gold
Aldous Crane’s counterfeit aurumite — reads as real, poisons everything it touches.
Project Aurum
Voss’s secret reactor program. Unstable math, buried failures, one meltdown.
The Night of First Light
The meltdown. 02:14. The night the gold chose Kade Mercer.
The Crucible Memorial
Foundry Row’s plaza honoring the meltdown dead, names etched in black steel.
Spark
Danny Reyes, 16 — sidekick, bike courier, best rooftop routes in the city.
