Signature Lines
Five lines in gold — every signature line, with its issue and its moment. (Original lines from this site's dramatizations; see source notes.)
“Gold doesn’t make the hero. The hero makes the gold worth something.”
Issue #1 — “First Light.” Said over the first patrol’s aftermath, to no one — Okafor found it in the suit’s audio log and wrote it on the Night Foundry wall. The thesis of the whole saga in one line.
“I wear the night so the city can keep the light.”
Issue #4 — “Blackout.” Spoken to the sunrise after rerouting the Heart’s charge into the dead grid. The line the Gazette printed; the line the Mile’s editorials never quote.
“Rust takes everything. Except resolve.”
Issue #3 — “Rust Never Sleeps.” To the bridge crew at dawn, with his left gauntlet corroded to the frame. The working motto of the Night Foundry crew ever since.
“The mask isn’t who I am. It’s what the city needs me to be.”
Issue #6 — “Platinum.” His answer when Vesper Quinn calls his mercy condescension. The quietest line in the saga and the one he means most.
“Every bridge I hold up is a promise I intend to keep.”
Issue #8 — “Golden Hour.” The final line of Year One, spoken to no one, logged by the suit, found by Okafor at dawn. A foundryman’s promise, kept in gold.
