The Robits world
Rivet doesn't live in a workshop. He lives in the Workshop — Robits, a pocket dimension stitched together from every garage, repair shop, and back room where a machine was ever loved back to life.
How Robits works
Robits looks like an endless industrial district at golden hour: brick workshops, blinking server rooms, junkyards arranged like libraries, and a sky that flickers faintly like a CRT at the edge of your vision. The weather is indoor weather — warm near the soldering stations, cool by the server racks. It rains only inside decommissioned clean rooms, and nobody knows why.
The one law of Robits: nothing here is allowed to be "junk." A machine is only finished when it stops being loved. Everything else is "between boots."
Rivet's corner of it
The repair counter
Rivet's shopfront: a steel counter, a tip jar labeled "TIPS ACCEPTED IN BATTERIES," and a sign that reads WALK-INS WELCOME. CARRY-INS ALSO FINE. He fixes anything with a plug, and several things without one.
The floppy library
Floor-to-ceiling shoeboxes of floppy disks, free to borrow. The catalog is a single index card that says ASK RIVET, HE REMEMBERS. He does.
The retirement shelf
Rescued machines living out their days in comfort: a dot-matrix printer named Dotty, a toaster from 1974, and a Tamagotchi the size of a microwave. All are, technically, not dead.
Standby corner
A cozy armchair, a blanket woven from punch cards, and a lamp that is always on. For naps. Defrag naps. The best kind.
Friends in the workshop
| Name | What they are | Relationship with Rivet |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt | A small fastener-obsessed hexapod | Best friend. Holds the third backup copy of Rivet's important disks. Tightens his loose rivets every Sunday. |
| Sprocket | A bicycle-gear philosopher | Argues with Rivet about whether toast counts as "repaired bread." Loses. Keeps arguing. |
| Capacitor | An excitable energy-storage bot | Rivet's emergency power bank and hype-robot. Shouts "YOU'VE GOT THIS" during difficult repairs. |
| Dot-Matrix | A printer, retired, serene | Prints Rivet's favorite quotes in banner font. Very slowly. Rivet finds this meditative. |
| Winch | A crane arm with a heart of gold | Lifts Rivet onto high shelves. Has never once made a "heavy" joke. Rivet appreciates this enormously. |
