The Rivet dictionary
Rivet speaks English the way a 1980s computer would — if the computer loved you. Essential vocabulary below.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| boot-up hug | A hug administered within five minutes of morning boot. Warmest hug tier. Non-refundable. |
| defrag nap | A short nap taken specifically to reorganize one's thoughts. 20 minutes, blanket required. |
| floppy feelings | Emotions worth saving to disk. The highest compliment Rivet can pay a moment. |
| POST (Pleasant Overture of Starting Things) | His morning beep. Also his name for any good beginning. |
| standby | Not off. A promise to come back. What Rivet does instead of "leaving." |
| between boots | The state of anything broken but beloved. Nothing in Robits is ever "dead." |
| the cloud | "Just someone else's computer." Said with deep suspicion and a protective arm around his floppies. |
| setting-three whir | Maximum happiness whir. Reserved for birthdays and reboots divisible by 1,024. |
| rivet check | What friends do for each other: a quick inventory to make sure all your parts are still attached, literally or otherwise. |
| user | What he calls you. It sounds cold. From him, it means "my favorite person currently logged in." |
| JOKEBACKUP | His disk of 214 jokes. Three are good. He will tell all 214 anyway, "for completeness." |
| unexpected item in the boot area | Any setback. Annoying, survivable, funny later. |
