The Ward & the Night Patrol
While the city sleeps, the Ward walks. (Creative interpretation.)

Canon status: creative interpretation. The app card establishes Nyra as a warden; the Ward as an institution is this site's invention.
What the Ward is
The Ward is the body of sworn guardians who keep Veyrhold's nights. Led by the Black Warden, they walk the walls in pairs, tend the ward-lanterns, watch the Underwall tunnels, and hold the Great Gate. Membership is for life; resignation is not a concept the Ward recognizes.
The night's order
- First bell (dusk): the walls are walked, lanterns lit, the gate's outer portcullis lowered.
- Deep night: patrols in pairs, one lantern between two wardens, the Black Warden walking alone where she chooses.
- Moon's height: the changing of the watch at Gatewatch; the night's reports are given to the Warden.
- Last bell (dawn): lanterns doused in order, the gate opened, the city returned to itself.
Nyra's patrol
The card calls her the Black Warden; this site imagines her as a warden who walks. She takes the wall-walk personally — the parapet circuit above the city is hers most nights, and wardens say you can tell her mood by the pace of her lantern. Her standing order, quoted across the Ward: "The wall does not sleep. Neither do I." (Character voice — creative interpretation.)
