Chronicles of the Watch
The Ward's remembered history — as the Ward tells it. (Creative interpretation.)

Canon status: creative interpretation. The app card gives no history. These chronicles are the Ward's own legends, as imagined for this site.
The remembered past
The Founding
The First Warden raised the first lantern on the first wall, and the city has kept the night ever since. No date survives; the Ward counts its years from that lantern, not from any king's reign.
The Long Siege
For one winter the threats did not come in packs but in a tide. The Ward held the walls for ninety nights. The lanterns never went out — the lampwrights of Lantern Row worked in shifts around the flame, and the city still lights a remembrance lantern every winter.
The Night of the Hollow Bell
The gate bell rang at moon's height with no hand on the rope. Three wardens answered and did not return. The Ward's standing order dates from that night: never open the gate for a bell alone.
Nyra's Taking of the Oath
The current Black Warden knelt before the sigil altar and swore the oath alone, as custom demands. The Ward's chronicle records only that the violet flame burned steady — which the Ward takes as a good omen, and Nyra takes as weather.
How to read these
As legends the Ward tells about itself — true in the way old soldiers' stories are true, which is to say: directionally. See Methodology.
