Timeline
The in-world chronology of Neris Sen's story — cycles, catastrophes, and coming-of-age, from the Kindling to the present.
How the dating works
The StarTeam universe counts years in cycles from the founding of the Port Selene charter. All dates below are in-world fictional dating from the StarTeam record, not real-world history. Where the record is thin, the timeline says so.
Cycle 1147 — The Kindling
A stardust storm of unprecedented density sweeps Port Selene for seventeen minutes. In its wake, the collapsed-star fragment later named the Starheart Core fuses to the chest of infant Neris Sen, daughter of Kara and Tomas Sen, nebula cartographers. Dr. Amara Osei records the first examination. The colony council classifies the report. (Lore)
Cycle 1151 — The First Flickers
At four years old, Neris is caught hovering two feet above her nursery floor, “talking to the warm.” Her parents dismiss it as a dream. It will be thirteen years before anyone admits it probably wasn’t.
Cycle 1155 — The Nebula Lessons
Neris begins working alongside her parents’ mapping skiffs as a junior chart-runner. She develops an uncanny ability to predict nebula density shifts — her first unconscious use of energy sense. Kara Sen starts keeping a private log of the predictions. All forty-seven come true.
Cycle 1159 — The Counselor’s Visit
A representative of the Meridian Academy — a front for Ashen Voidfleet recruitment — visits the Sen family and offers Neris a “specialized placement.” Kara Sen declines. The representative leaves a card. Kara burns it.
Cycle 1161 — The Awakening
Fourteen-year-old Neris’s powers manifest catastrophically in the Port Selene observatory dome during a solar-flare event. The dome ceiling is destroyed; no one is hurt. Twelve witnesses confirm she rose ten feet off the floor wreathed in violet starlight. The Starheart Core is active. Word begins to leak off-world.
Cycle 1162 — The Year of Hiding
Energy merchants, “schools,” and five star systems make offers — some generous, some threatening. Neris blacks out stopping a falling cargo crane; the dock floor keeps a permanent violet ring. Dr. Osei sends word off-world: she needs training, not protection.
Cycle 1163 — First Contact with the StarTeam
Captain Ilsa Veyne visits Port Selene personally — unannounced, without a fleet, and brings a gift: a star-chart of the Veil Nebula drawn on the year of Neris’s birth. She tells the Sens she is not there to recruit anyone. “I’m here,” she says, “so she knows what ‘no’ sounds like from someone she can trust.”
Cycle 1164 — The Reckoning
Kael Drax’s Voidfleet raiders strike Port Selene’s docks at dawn. Fifteen-year-old Neris holds the broken dock ring alone for forty minutes — three disabled skiffs, one starburst crater — until the StarTeam arrives. Veyne’s after-action report changes everything: “She held the line alone. Whatever she is, she is not a weapon yet. Let’s keep it that way.”
Cycle 1165 — The Trainee Year
Neris joins the StarTeam as a trainee. Sixteen months of brutal training under Veyne and Master Rook: control drills, energy discipline, tactics, and her first structured missions. She passes her trials on the second attempt — the first she fails deliberately, a fact she will not admit for years. (Training Regimen)
Cycle 1166 — The Patrol Years Begin
Neris’s first full year as an operative: thirty-one missions, fourteen rescues, three diplomatic escorts, and her first solo command (the Theros relay rescue). Her energy output doubles. Flick Marn completes the mark-III energy-weave suit.
Cycle 1167 — The Eclipse Siege
The Ashen Voidfleet attempts to eclipse Veyra’s sun. Neris flies into the eclipse engine’s corona and detonates it from within, holding the Starlume Barrier for eleven seconds at point-blank stellar heat. The Ashen fleet retreats. Kael Drax broadcasts on an open channel: “Sen. You and I are not finished.” (Missions Archive)
Cycle 1168 — The Quiet Years
Patrols, training, recovery. Neris turns seventeen. The StarTeam wins the Kestrel Reach accords — the first diplomatic victory she’s old enough to remember clearly. Drax goes silent for eight months. Everyone agrees this is worse than when he was loud.
Cycle 1168 (late) — Present Day
Neris Sen, seventeen, StarTeam frontline energy-wielder. Her story is mid-arc: stronger, warier, funnier, and still the kid who breaks curfew to stare at the nebula.
Gaps in the record
- The Starheart Core’s exact composition remains unclassified in the StarTeam archives (Osei’s “composition: unknown, obviously” note is famous).
- The Sens’ fate after Cycle 1165 is deliberately undocumented — the family went into protective obscurity, and the StarTeam keeps it that way.
- Drax’s eight silent months in 1168 are the subject of active debate in the Fan Guide.
