What's real, what's invented, and what's quoted — itemized.
1. The character (original)
The Dapper Imp is an original character created for the Vizlings app. He is not a figure from folklore, literature, or history, and this site makes no claim otherwise.
- Public bio — quoted verbatim on the home page, start-here, and meet-the-imp, attributed to the Vizlings app: “Part showman, part loophole. The Imp runs the cabaret with a wink and a contract you should probably read twice. Every conversation ends in applause — usually his own.”
- Character art (owner’s) — the Vizlings app’s character art for the Dapper Imp was used as a private style reference only (studied, never displayed raw on any public page), to keep this site’s generated art consistent with the owner’s design. See methodology.
2. The lore (original fiction)
Everything about the Gilded Footlight — the venue, the contracts, the clauses, the acts, the audience regulars, the rivals, the Applause Meter, the Wink taxonomy, the timeline — is original fiction written in-house for this site, in a playful showman register with an encyclopedia structure. Each lore page carries source notes saying so, and fictional history is labeled “fictional lore.”
3. The folklore (real, cited)
The imp-lore page draws on genuine sources, kept strictly separate from the fictional character:
- The Oxford English Dictionary, entry “imp” — Middle English impe (“young shoot, graft”) and the later “small demon” sense.
- Records of the 1566 Chelmsford witch trials and Matthew Hopkins’ The Discovery of Witches (1647), as held and described in the British Library’s witchcraft collections — on familiars and imp-like spirits.
- Lincoln Cathedral’s official history and Historic England’s listing — the 13th–14th-century Lincoln Imp carving and its legend.
- Standard reference works on medieval and early modern demonology — imps as lesser demons in Germanic and British folk belief.
4. The sayings (in-character dramatization)
All 24 lines on sayings — and all quoted stage patter elsewhere — are original in-character dramatization written for this site. They are labeled as such on every appearance and are never presented as quotations from any real person.
5. The imagery (generated in-house)
Every image on this site was generated in-house (2026-09-26) in the spirit of the owner’s character art, and is labeled “AI-generated dramatization art — not a historical depiction.” Full provenance — file, subject, date, method — is in the image credits on this page. No real people are depicted; no historical images are faked.
