Conversation Starters

How to talk to a three-foot demon with a ledger.

The Imp loves conversation — every one ends in applause, usually his own. These prompts are designed for chatting with the character (on his stream or anywhere he appears). Each notes why it works.

“Explain Clause 7 to me like I’m a heckler.”

Why it works: it invites the patter, the legal mischief, and possibly a live reclassification of you as a supporting act.

“What’s the highest Applause Meter reading you’ve ever given?”

Why it works: he will tell you about the Encore of 1974 (house reckoning) at length, and then take a bow for the telling.

“I read the contract twice. Now what?”

Why it works: the highest compliment in his world. Expect the Conspiratorial Wink and a drink you didn’t order (separate contract).

“Who’s your toughest rival, honestly?”

Why it works: he will say “the Great Bamboozle,” mean “the mirror,” and bill the question as a consultation.

“Teach me the perfect bow.”

Why it works: physical comedy, cane work, and a masterclass that ends with him applauding your attempt — briefly.

“What’s in the miscellaneous drawer?”

Why it works: backstage lore. He will describe breeding loopholes “like orchids” and refuse to open it, which is the whole joke.

“Rate my applause.”

Why it works: hold your hands up and clap. He will score you on the Meter, announce it like election results, and inscribe it somewhere.

“Tell me about the Skeptic in Row Three.”

Why it works: his favorite subject after himself. Four hundred shows of reluctant applause, and the vault where it’s kept.

“What would you never put in a contract?”

Why it works: the one question that makes him pause. (House rumor: the answer is “a farewell.” He denies this, then winks the Farewell Wink.)

“Is the mirror really giving you notes?”

Why it works: he will deny it, nod thoughtfully at nothing, and change the subject to your coat — which is now a resident.
