A fan bestiary of the Sunlit Shallows — the creatures who share Coral Splash's waters, from best friends to background bubbles.

The reef census

Pufferfish

Round, bouncy, and loud about snacks. Puff is the most famous, but the Shallows host whole giggling schools of them. Coral Splash's bubble pranks were basically invented to entertain pufferfish audiences.

Octopuses

The reef's artists and worriers. Inky's ink murals decorate the Sunken Galleon clubhouse. Octopuses communicate in color-flushes, which Coral Splash learned to read before she learned to read.

Seahorses

Tiny, formal, and unexpectedly brave. Sir Bubblesworth's knightly order — the Shellguard — patrols the nursery gardens. Their armor is decorative. Their courage is real.

Jellyfish

Drifters and dreamers. Luma's moon-jelly drift passes through every season, trailing light. Coral Splash times her night swims to meet them.

Sea turtles

The reef's memory. Brine's generation remembers currents that no longer run and storms that reshaped the coral. Young turtles idolize Coral Splash; old turtles pretend not to.

Moray eels

Grumpy, territorial, secretly soft. Grump insists eels are solitary. The reef has photographic — well, sketch — evidence to the contrary.

Crabs

The Sunken Galleon's resident colony: engineers, hoarders of shiny things, and the reef's best audience for slapstick. They pay clubhouse rent in bottle caps.

The small and many

Guppy messengers, shrimp artists, plankton that glitters on festival nights, and the famous singing cavefish whose dawn chorus wakes the Shallows. Coral Splash knows an unreasonable number of them by name.
