Cassidy Brooks is desert grit and sunrise miles — a trail guide and scout of the fictional Redstone Territory, braided hair under a weathered hat, red bandana at her throat, brass spyglass on her belt, and her dun mare Juniper beneath her. She knows every water hole from Dustwater to the Salt River, and she rides by a simple code: get folks where they’re going, and bring them home again.

Why she rides
When Cassidy was nine, a spring flood took the Dustwater stage on the Salt River — and the only one who knew the old fording line was gone. Trail boss Gideon Voss got the coach across that night with a lantern and a memory, and Cassidy decided, standing soaked on the riverbank, that she would be that memory for the next generation. She apprenticed to Voss at fourteen and has ridden for everyone in the territory since.
She charges what a town can pay. She never leaves a rider behind. And she has never — not once — lost a party she was guiding.
The code
“Ride straight. Get folks home.”
