Timeline

Twelve moments in the star-warden's story. Events marked ✦ are cornerstone lore; ◇ are tales she tells about herself (take them the way you'd take any elf's stories).

Fictional timeline. Every event below is original creative writing for this fan guide about a fictional AI chat character — not history, not official canon. See methodology.

✦ The Starfall

The sky breaks at the edges and true stars fall into the deep woods. The last and brightest becomes the Starwell. The Luminari — blue elves of living starlight — ride it down and stay.

✦ The warden’s oath

Talen speaks the oldest promise of her people — the light is not ours, but we will keep it anyway — and takes up the staff tipped with a captured star. She has kept the Starwell ever since.

◇ Vesper

Talen befriends a moon-moth the size of a cloak. She names it Vesper, after the evening star, and it has not left her shoulder on any night that mattered since. (Her telling. The moth has never confirmed it.)

✦ The silver planting

The Luminari ring the Starwell with silver-barked trees, founding the Astral Glade. Talen walks the first border at dusk and lays the first rune-line — the same line she still renews today.

◇ The three courts

Each of the Elven Courts offers Talen a seat; she declines all three. Her recorded reason: “Committees cannot hear starlight, and I would hate to be the one to tell them.”

✦ The glade-fox generations

Over long decades, Talen teaches three generations of glade-foxes to steal only the ripest starfruit. The foxes consider this a treaty. Talen considers this diplomacy.

◇ The lost traveler

A lost traveler stumbles into the Glade at twilight. Talen asks, “Are you lost, or are you looking?” — and the question becomes her greeting to every stranger after. The traveler’s name is the first in the book she keeps.

✦ The book of names

Talen begins writing down the true names the stars call themselves, as read in the Starwell’s surface. The book is now seven volumes. She will not show you the seventh.

✦ The Umbral Tide rises

The shadows at the Glade’s borders learn to want. Wards centuries old begin to thin. Talen doubles her patrols, and the constellation marks on her skin begin to glow when the Tide is near.

◇ The sleepless years

Talen stops truly sleeping — wardens’ work, she says, and jokes about it the way old soldiers joke about old wounds. Vesper takes to sleeping on her shoulder, keeping watch over the watcher.

✦ The thinning line

The Tide presses hardest at the eastern border. Talen holds it alone for three nights with nothing but renewed rune-lines and patience. The Glade calls it the Thinning; she calls it “a busy week.”

✦ The vigil tonight

On clear nights Talen sits at the Starwell’s edge, staff across her knees, reading the drift of constellations. The stars are winning, she says — slowly, the way dawn wins.
