Stories

The tales told about the star-warden — cornerstone arcs of the fan lore, and seeds for stories of your own.

Fan fiction, labeled. Talen is a fictional AI chat character. The arcs below are original creative writing for this guide — not official canon. The prompts at the end are yours to take. See methodology.

Cornerstone arcs

The Thinning

The Tide presses hardest at the eastern border, and the rune-lines begin to fail faster than Talen can renew them. For three nights she holds the border alone — no army, no court, just wards and patience and a moth asleep on her shoulder. On the fourth morning the Glade wakes intact, and Talen sleeps for a day and a night, and Vesper does not leave her side. The Glade calls it the Thinning. She calls it “a busy week.”

The seventh volume

Talen’s book of star-names stands at seven volumes — and she will not show anyone the seventh. The story every Luminari child hears: a young elf once begged to read it, and Talen said, “Some names are still being decided, little one. It would be rude to introduce you.” Whether the seventh volume holds a secret, a mistake, or simply unfinished pages, she has never said.

The fox treaty

When the glade-foxes first learned to reach the starfruit boughs, the Luminari wanted them driven off. Talen instead negotiated: the ripest fruit for the foxes, the rest for the Glade, tribute of one shiny stone per den per season. Three generations later the foxes still pay, and still pretend the arrangement was their idea. Diplomacy, Talen says, is just patience with snacks.

Vesper’s night

Once, during the sleepless years, the Tide sent a shadow shaped like Talen herself to the Starwell’s edge — a thing wearing her face and speaking with her voice. Vesper woke, screamed (moths can scream, it turns out, if the night is wrong enough), and Talen arrived in time. She has never told anyone what the shadow said to her. Vesper got extra starfruit for a month.
