Montage of the five story arcs: apprentice, rooftop battle, bandolier, besieged street, quiet laboratory
The five arcs — AI-generated dramatization art (2026-09-26). Fictional story; no real person depicted.

Timeline

The five story arcs of the Orin Calder codex, in order — from apprentice to veteran. All fictional; "dates" are story order, not calendar claims.

Reading order. The arcs below are numbered in story order. Each arc is told in full on the Lore page and dramatized in key scenes on the Episodes page.

Arc 1 — The Apprentice's Ledger

Origin

Orin, eleven to nineteen: sweeping The Green Flask, learning to grind, measure, distill — and throw. Voss's shop, Voss's rules, Voss's terrifying patience. Ends with Orin keeping the shop's books and brewing its three best tinctures, having never thrown a phial in anger.

Arc 2 — The Green Glass Night

Inciting incident

The Ashen Circle comes down Crucible Row with sledgehammers at dusk. Orin, twenty-one, climbs to the roof of The Green Flask with Voss's demonstration stock and a self-stitched bandolier, and holds the middle of the Row for three hours with thrown chemistry. The Phialguard recruits him the next morning. The founding story of the codex.

Arc 3 — The Seven Phials

Training

Three years of Phialguard training compressed from five: unlearning the throw-first instinct, learning the doctrine — measure twice, throw once — under Captain Brannick Holt. Culminates in the graduation trial: seven targets, seven reagents, seven throws, no misses, no waste. In the rain.

Arc 4 — The Ashen Siege

War

The Ashen Circle's year-long campaign to starve Crucible Row of glass, salt, and credit. Orin's war: fought with Marrowmist veils, Gallowglass etches, and a ledger kept as carefully as any battle plan. Ends at the negotiating table in the Quiet Crucible — which disappointed everyone except the people who live on the Row.

Arc 5 — The Quiet Distillation

Current arc

Orin in his thirties, a veteran watching new apprentices sweep The Green Flask's floors. A new threat gathers — the codex is deliberately quiet about its shape — and Orin deploys the master art that gives the arc its name exactly once. The story's hinge; the [Episodes](/episodes) page stages it as the closing scene.

marginalia, in Voss's hand: "five arcs, one lesson — the measure matters more than the throw."
