The tools of the chemist warrior: seven phials, one gauntlet, and the objects that carry his story. All fictional artifacts invented for this codex.
The Seven Phials
Orin's bandolier: leather-and-brass, seven glass phials in individual shock-cups, each blown by Marchetti's works and stamped with her furnace-mark. The loadout changes by mission, but the seventh cup is *always* filled last and — per doctrine — never thrown unless the question demands it. (The [Fan Theories](/fan-theories) page catalogues what readers believe the seventh holds.)
The Alembic
The brass catalyst gauntlet on Orin's left forearm: a lattice of catalyst metal over leather and plate, built by Voss from a design she refused to write down. It detonates reagent residue on contact — the engine of the Catalyst Strike — and doubles as his measuring hand's opposite: the hand that acts after the other hand has measured.
Voss's Ledger
The shop's account book, which Orin kept from age nineteen — and the private ledger he started during the Ashen Siege, recording phials thrown the way a miser records coin. Both survive. The codex quotes the siege ledger's final entry in the [Episodes](/episodes) marginalia: "seven carried, five thrown, two returned. the street stands." (Fictional.)
The Green Glass Shard
A shard of The Green Flask's window glass, kept in Orin's bandolier pouch since the Green Glass Night. It is not magical, not useful, and not discussed. Voss pretends not to know it's missing from the shop's repairs. Everyone pretends.
The Quiet Crucible
The windowless meeting hall's namesake artifact is the hall itself — but the *table* is the artifact that matters: the scarred oak table where the Ashen Siege ended, with the faint ring-stain where Orin set down the unbroken phial of kingswater. The stain is varnished over now. The story is not.
The Measure Chain
A brass chain of standard weights, issued to every Phialguard graduate and worn at the belt. It is the guard's oldest symbol: chemistry is measurement, measurement is honesty, and honesty — the chain's inscription reads — "is the only reagent that never runs out." (Fictional inscription.)
