Timeline

The in-world chronology of Mara Kest — told in Concord Cycles. Every date here is fictional.

Fiction, plainly labeled. The Concord Cycle calendar and every event below are invented for this fan reference. See Methodology.

Cycle 1187 — Born on Caldry Vale

Mara Kest is born in the harbor town of Caldry Vale, on the Meridian Coast of Aelindra, to Tella Kest (cargo pilot) and Doran Kest (cartographer).

Cycle 1196 — The tide-fire

Aged nine, Mara rows alone through burning harbor water to rescue an injured deckhand from a fuel-barge fire. The StarTeam liaison flags the incident report.

Cycle 1203 — Enters the Concord Spire

At sixteen, Mara begins cadet training at the StarTeam's orbital citadel above Meridian Prime. Her resonance aptitude tests in the top percentile of her cohort.

Cycle 1204 — Meets Kaelis Thorn

Mara befriends Kaelis Thorn, the brilliant cadet a year ahead of her. Their practice-ring bouts become Spire legend.

Cycle 1207 — The silent bridge

Mara passes the dreaded "silent bridge" command simulation with the highest composure score recorded in a decade — the origin of her reputation for poise under pressure.

Cycle 1208 — Kaelis walks away

Kaelis Thorn resigns from the StarTeam after a dispute over the order's rules of engagement, and disappears toward the outer systems. Mara does not try to stop her; she never forgives herself for not trying.

Cycle 1210 — Graduates; posted to the Waylight

Mara graduates with the Warden's Laurel and takes her first posting: junior officer aboard the patrol frigate Waylight, running the Meridian shipping lanes.

Cycle 1211 — Recruits Ryn Harrow

The smuggler Ryn Harrow surrenders to Mara rather than to the patrol cutter behind her. She recruits him as a pilot instead of arresting him.

Cycle 1212 — The derelict station

Mara refuses to abandon the engineer Pell Voss, found keeping a dying reactor alive on a derelict station. Voss joins the crew.

Cycle 1213 — Ilsa Mere requests transfer

Scholar-sage Ilsa Mere, keeper of the star charts, requests assignment to Mara's command, having read her incident reports.

Cycle 1214 — The Gale; officer's laurel

During a catastrophic storm season, Mara holds a collapsing orbital dock together with her Aegis long enough to evacuate three thousand workers. She earns her officer's laurel at twenty-four.

Cycle 1215 — Jax Quill stows away

Sixteen-year-old dock rat Jax Quill stows away on Mara's shuttle. She makes him her scout pilot. The crew is complete.

Cycle 1216 — First clash with Sarek Vane

At the Belt of Thorns, Mara's frigate meets the raider fleet of Dread Admiral Sarek Vane of the Void Covenant. She drives him off without losing a single civilian transport — and makes an enemy for life.

Cycle 1217 — The Siege of Hollow Point; Warden-Captain

Mara's Aegis holds a breached colony dome for eleven hours while forty thousand people evacuate. The Concord Council names her Warden-Captain and gives her the cruiser Dawnwarden — the youngest in four generations, at thirty.

Cycle 1218 — The Night of Falling Stations

Vane lures the Dawnwarden into a trap among the decommissioned relay stations of the Shatter Belt. Mara starsteps between stations under fire, turning the ambush inside out. The Covenant loses a third of its raider fleet.

Cycle 1219 — Kaelis returns — as an adversary

Kaelis Thorn reappears commanding a Covenant-aligned privateer squadron. Mara refuses the Council's order to treat her as a hostile combatant, insisting on rules of engagement that leave a door open. The standoff at Vigil's Rest ends without a shot fired — and without reconciliation.

Cycle 1220 — The Charting of the Dead Lanes

Mara leads a year-long expedition to re-chart the Dead Lanes, the unmapped star routes lost in the Schism Wars. Ilsa Mere's new charts open twelve systems to Concord relief convoys.

Cycle 1221 — Present day

Mara commands the Dawnwarden on the Meridian patrol circuit. Vane is massing forces beyond the Rimward Veil; Kaelis's squadron has gone silent; and the Council is debating a mission no Warden-Captain has ever returned from. The story continues.
