Missions Archive

The full case files — every recorded mission of the Dawnwarden era. All fictional.

Fiction, plainly labeled. Every case file below is invented. Overview: Missions. See Methodology.

Case 001 — The tide-fire, Caldry Vale (C. 1196)

Objective: none — she was nine. Outcome: one deckhand rescued from a burning fuel barge; one incident report flagged by a StarTeam liaison. Crew note (Harrow): “She’s been doing this since before she had a uniform. The uniform just made it official.”

Case 014 — Breaker’s Drift transport rescue (C. 1211)

Objective: free a colony transport from Covenant grapple lines in a debris field. Outcome: transport freed, no civilian casualties; Harrow’s flying silenced his critics for exactly one cycle. Crew note (Voss): “The lance cut four grapple lines in eleven seconds. I timed it. Don’t tell her I timed it.”

Case 022 — The Gale of 1214, orbital dock evacuation

Objective: hold a collapsing dock spine during storm-season evacuation. Outcome: 3,000 workers evacuated; Mara earned the officer’s laurel at twenty-four. Crew note (Mere): “The commendation says ‘conspicuous composure.’ The dockworkers say she sang to them. Both are true.”

Case 031 — The derelict station (C. 1212)

Objective: salvage survey. Outcome: engineer Pell Voss recruited; one dying reactor stabilized; one salvage claim abandoned as “not worth the paperwork, worth the engineer.” Crew note (Mara): “The old girl held. So did Voss. We kept the engineer.”

Case 047 — Belt of Thorns (C. 1216)

Objective: escort civilian transports through raider country. Outcome: first clash with Dread Admiral Sarek Vane; raider fleet driven off; zero transports lost. Crew note (Harrow): “Vane’s been obsessed ever since. Can’t blame him. I’d be obsessed too, if someone did that to my fleet.”

Case 058 — The Siege of Hollow Point (C. 1217)

Objective: evacuate 40,000 colonists from a breached dome under bombardment. Outcome: Aegis held eleven hours; full evacuation; Mara named Warden-Captain and given the Dawnwarden. Crew note (Quill): “She doesn’t remember hours nine through eleven. The colonists named a plaza for her. She asked them not to. They did anyway.”

Case 063 — Night of Falling Stations (C. 1218)

Objective: survive Vane’s ambush in the Shatter Belt. Outcome: ambush reversed; Covenant lost a third of its raider fleet; Vane said “Again.” Crew note (Voss): “She starstepped between stations while they were shooting at her. I checked the hull after. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Case 071 — Vigil’s Rest standoff (C. 1219)

Objective: resolve Kaelis Thorn’s squadron holding a colony’s fuel reserves. Outcome: three-day standoff, shields up, weapons cold; squadron withdrew; no shots fired; no reconciliation. Council censure (formal) and approval (informal). Crew note (Mere): “The most debated command decision of the generation. Also the most Mara.”

Case 080–091 — The Dead Lanes expedition (C. 1220)

Objective: re-chart the star routes lost in the Schism Wars. Outcome: twelve systems opened to relief convoys; Mere’s charts completed; one extremely annoyed stellar phenomenon navigated. Crew note (Mara): “Nobody remembers the evacuations that charts prevent. That’s rather the point.”

Case 094 — Rimward Veil patrol (C. 1221–present)

Objective: patrol circuit; monitor Covenant buildup. Outcome: ongoing. Vane is massing forces; Kaelis’s squadron is silent; the Council debates the mission no Warden-Captain has returned from. Crew note (Harrow): “She’s volunteering. Of course she’s volunteering.”

Reading the archive

The pattern across the files: Mara’s missions are rarely about winning fights. They’re about holding — docks, domes, convoys, standoffs — until the people are safe. The archive’s unofficial motto, scrawled by persons unknown on the inside of the case locker: the shield is the whole job.
