Methodology
Canon versus invention, and how we keep them apart.
The core policy
This site contains two kinds of material, and they are never mixed without a label:
- Persona canon — invented. The character’s traits, voice, lore, court, timeline, cast, deals, and lines are original fiction written for the Vizlings character Lucifer. This material is labeled wherever it appears: “persona fiction,” “persona lines,” “invented for the Vizlings character.”
- Literary sources — real. The works behind the name (the Bible, Dante, Milton, Marlowe, Goethe, folk tradition) are real published works. They appear only on fenced-off pages (mythology, and by reference on fall and redemption), quoted verbatim with attribution or clearly labeled as summaries.
Persona lines
Every in-character line on this site was written for the persona. Site-wide rules:
- Persona lines are never presented as quotations from literature, scripture, or any published work.
- Each line is labeled on first appearance: “Persona line — written for the character, not a quotation” (or equivalent).
- The lines and social pages carry standing notices that all lines there are invented.
- No line is attributed to a real author, living or dead.
Literary quotations
- Quotations are verbatim and carry work, and where useful, book/line or chapter/verse.
- Summaries and paraphrases are labeled as summaries, never set in quotation marks.
- The persona’s pages may play against the tradition (the Fall as resignation vs. Milton’s war), but they never claim continuity with it.
Uncertainty and ambiguity
Where the persona’s own lore is deliberately unresolved (the ledger question, the Empty Box, the open door), the site says so explicitly rather than inventing a secret answer. Ambiguity is documented, not papered over. See The Redemption Question for the standing example.
Images
- All artwork is generated in-house . Nothing is scraped, hotlinked, or AI-upscaled from the web.
- Every image carries alt text and a caption labeling it AI-generated dramatization art.
- See the image captions for credits and context. Illustrated character art is a dramatization.
- No real persons are depicted, ever. The persona is fictional; the art is illustrative.
- No owner-supplied character sheets exist for this character; none are displayed or referenced as sources.
What we don’t do
- No theological claims. The site is a character companion, not a doctrinal work.
- No real-person depiction or implication, in text or image.
- No invented quotations, no paraphrase presented as quotation, no silent borrowing.
Source notes
- This methodology governs all pages of this site; it is itself the policy document, with no external sources beyond those listed on the sources page.
