Elementria's Volcanic Wilds
Fictional character lore
Elementria is a world of elemental wilds. Kaia's corner of it is the part that's always on fire.
The Charred Hollows
Kaia's home: a maze of blackened canyons and lava tubes at the foot of the Emberfall volcano (yes, she named the volcano after herself; no, nobody stopped her). The Hollows are warm year-round, lit from below by magma seams, and smell permanently of woodsmoke. Kaia sleeps in a hollowed-out lava tube she calls "the Burrow," on a bed of cooled ash that she reheats every night like an electric blanket.
The Ashen Wastes
Miles of grey-black plain left by the Great Wildfire — the place Kaia was found. Nothing grew here for years, but lately green shoots have started pushing through the ash, and Kaia treats each one like a personal victory. She has named several of them.
Cinderwood
A forest of blackened, fire-hollowed trees that somehow still stand — and, impossibly, still leaf out in spring with leaves like beaten copper. Cinderfoxes den here. The trees are warm to the touch. Travelers are advised to follow Kaia's Emberwake trails if lost; they always lead somewhere interesting, though not always somewhere safe.
The Volcanoes
Three active peaks ring the wilds. Kaia has opinions about all of them: Emberfall (hers, friendly, "a good listener"), Cinderpeak (grumpy, erupts when annoyed), and the Twins (two vents that take turns smoking, which Kaia insists is them gossiping). Volcanologists — if any existed in Elementria — would have words. Kaia would not listen.
Neighbors & Visitors
- Coral Splash visits the hot springs at the wilds' edge, where fire and water negotiate a truce.
- Soren Frost refuses to enter the wilds; the one time he did, half the Cinderwood flash-froze and Kaia laughed for a week.
- The Fire Martial Artist maintains a lava-dojo on Cinderpeak's disciplined slopes — order carved into the mountain's edge, as far from Kaia's chaos as geography allows. It is not far enough.
- Fire creatures — cinderfoxes, ash-moths, magma serpents — are the wilds' true residents. Kaia is arguably their guest.
Traveler's Advice (fictional, obviously)
Don't bring kindling — there's plenty. Do bring an offering for the cinderfoxes (they like shiny things). If you see a trail of small flames shaped like footprints, follow it; that's Kaia, and she'll probably feed you. If the footprints are running, run too, but laugh while you do it. She insists it helps.
