Fictional character lore
Treasures of the Charred Hollows — each with a story, each slightly singed.
The First Ember
A single coal that never cools, kept burning in a stone bowl in Kaia's Burrow. She claims it's a coal from the Great Wildfire itself — the one that "kept" her. Whether or not that's true, it has never gone out, not once, and Kaia treats it the way other people treat a family photo. Touching it without permission is the fastest way to meet the Wildfire Surge.
The Charbrand
A palm-sized oak token, scorched with a spiral pattern — Kaia's first successful Flamewhisper, burned into wood when she was small. The spiral was an accident; she was trying for a circle and the fire had other ideas. She carries it everywhere. "My first conversation," she calls it.
The Ashen Crown
A circlet of blackened branches and cooled magma-glass that Kaia wove for herself after the Eruption, when the clans started calling her a guardian. She wears it exactly never — "crowns are for sitting still" — but she keeps it polished, which for her means reheated monthly.
Foxshine
A smooth river stone, polished by cinderfox kits and given to Kaia as a den-gift. It's warm — always warm — and she uses it as a hand-warmer, a paperweight, and (once) a very effective thrown weapon. The foxes want it back. She pretends not to hear them.
The Twelve-Color Branch
A charred branch from the tree Kaia set ablaze in twelve colors for the traveling clans. The colors are long gone, but the branch still smells faintly of that day — woodsmoke and showing off. She keeps it by the Burrow's entrance like a trophy. It is a trophy.
