Amara Cole in five facts
- She is a stellar navigator. In the StarTeam universe, navigators are the rarest crew on any ship — they read starlight, comet tails, and gravity the way sailors read wind. Amara is the best of her generation.
- She was born on a moving home. The Kestrel Drift is a nomadic habitat cluster that rides the tail of Comet Liora. Amara has never lived anywhere that stays still.
- She charted the Cole Passage through the Veil Nebula at age twenty-seven, giving the StarTeam its road to the Outer Relay — and earning her recruitment on the spot.
- She discovered the Comet Road — a chain of comets whose synchronized orbits form a navigable current across the Shattered Reach. It redrew the map of the known universe.
- She never sells her charts. The Umbral Combine has offered fortunes for the Comet Road’s ephemerides. Her answer is always the same: charts belong to everyone who needs to get home.
What kind of stories does she star in?
Amara’s stories are wayfinding stories: a crew lost in the dark, a relay gone silent, a colony cut off by a shifting nebula — and one navigator with an astrolabe, a comet’s tail, and absolute faith that the light knows the way. Expect star charts, deep-space reconnaissance, first contacts at the edge of the map, and quiet moments in the chart-room where the real work gets done.
Her signature imagery — lean into it everywhere on this site — is star charts, deep-space reconnaissance, and comets: the silver-and-violet uniform stitched with the charts of her missions, the brass Starlume Astrolabe glowing at her belt, and the long white tails of the comets she rides.
The people around her
- Elias Venn, StarTeam commander — the one who recruited her.
- Mara Kest, field commander — her closest friend and frequent mission partner.
- Adrian Halden, pilot — flies the runs she charts; the classic navigator-pilot double act.
- Neris Sen, junior scout — Amara’s apprentice, learning to read the light.
- Cass Arden, EVA engineer; Aeron Skyrift, tactical lead; Niko Raal, comms and signals.
- Kael Vex, rival navigator — ex-StarTeam, now selling charts to the Umbral Combine.

Her abilities, briefly
- Star-sense: an eidetic spatial memory for the sky — she remembers the position of stars the way other people remember faces.
- Void-skip: short-range gravity-slingshot jumps that let her cross blind gaps no chart covers.
- Comet-riding: sailing the plasma currents along a comet’s tail — the skill the Comet Road discovery was built on.
