Aeron Skyrift — Tactician
Fleet Admiral, Concord Starfleet. Callsign “Rift.” Writes the operations, assigns the roles, carries the casualties. Introduces himself on missions as “Rift, tactics” — never by rank. The team’s anchor and its conscience.

Eight specialists, one tactician — the StarTeam unit Aeron Skyrift plans for and fights beside.
The StarTeam is the Concord’s special-operations unit of exceptional individuals — small, deniable, and deployed where fleets can’t go. Aeron Skyrift joined in 1211 as its military tactician. He doesn’t lead the team (it has no formal commander; it votes). He plans for it — and in the field, when the shooting starts, everyone looks at him anyway.
Fleet Admiral, Concord Starfleet. Callsign “Rift.” Writes the operations, assigns the roles, carries the casualties. Introduces himself on missions as “Rift, tactics” — never by rank. The team’s anchor and its conscience.
Keeps the team’s ship, the Keelhaul, flying through damage that should have killed it twice over. Gruff, brilliant, and the only person who regularly tells Aeron his plan is stupid — usually right before improving it. Their working relationship is the team’s engine: he brings the strategy, she brings the possible.
A blue-skinned Veyran void-born defector — one of the few of his kind to side with the Concord — and quite possibly the best pilot alive. Flies like physics is a suggestion. Aeron’s plans for Zyx are famously three words long: “Zyx, be brilliant.” It has never failed.
The youngest member, a cadet medic who joined after the Veyra Evacuation — Aeron personally pulled his transport out of the blockade. Earnest, brave, and still a little awed by the company he keeps. Aeron is quietly, fiercely protective of him, and Jorenn is the only team member Aeron has ever apologized to mid-operation.
Ex-Marine, enormous, gentle off-duty and terrifying on. Carries the squad support cannon “Argument.” Follows Aeron’s plans to the letter because, as he puts it, “the Admiral’s letters have kept me alive eleven times.” The team’s hammer.
Infiltrator and reconnaissance specialist. Moves like smoke, reports like a poet — her recon briefs are famously vivid and famously accurate. She and Aeron share a game: she tries to find a flaw in his plan before deployment, and she almost never can. “Almost” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
The team’s talker — negotiator, linguist, and the reason half their missions end without firing a shot. Aeron, who describes himself as “a blunt instrument with a map,” relies on Pax for everything involving people who aren’t trying to kill them. They are close friends and permanent chess rivals. Pax is winning.
Comms officer and intelligence analyst. Runs the team’s information flow — intercepts, decryption, the holo-net feeds that power Aeron’s Tactical Overwatch. She is the only person besides Aeron cleared to rewrite an operation plan mid-mission, and she has done it twice. Both times he thanked her.
Aeron’s doctrine for the team is the same as his doctrine for a fleet, scaled down: everyone knows the plan, everyone knows the objective behind the plan, and anyone can call an audible. Missions are planned in a ritual the team calls “the table” — Aeron lays out the operation, each member stress-tests their part, and nothing launches until Jorenn (the youngest) says he understands his role. “If the medic can’t follow it,” Aeron says, “it’s too complicated.”
