25 January 1978 — Born in Kryvyi Rih
Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy is born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian SSR, to Oleksandr Zelenskyy, a cybernetics professor, and Rymma Zelenska, an engineer.
1997–2003 — Kvartal 95: from comedy team to studio
Zelenskyy and fellow performers form the KVN comedy team Kvartal 95 in 1997; in 2003 it becomes Studio Kvartal 95, growing into a major Ukrainian entertainment producer with Zelenskyy as frontman, writer, and producer.
October 2015 — Servant of the People premieres
The 1+1 sitcom Servant of the People debuts, with Zelenskyy as Vasyl Holoborodko, a teacher elected president. It runs three seasons and becomes the template for his real campaign.
31 December 2018 — Announces his candidacy
In a New Year’s Eve address on 1+1, Zelenskyy announces he will run for president of Ukraine.
31 March 2019 — Wins the first round
Zelenskyy takes 30.24% in the first round of the presidential election, ahead of incumbent Petro Poroshenko, and advances to the runoff.
21 April 2019 — Elected president
Zelenskyy wins the runoff with 73.22% of the vote, defeating Poroshenko — one of the widest margins in Ukrainian electoral history.
20 May 2019 — Inaugurated; dissolves parliament
Inaugurated as Ukraine’s sixth president, Zelenskyy announces the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada in his inaugural address, triggering snap parliamentary elections.
21 July 2019 — Parliamentary landslide
His Servant of the People party wins 254 of 450 seats in the snap parliamentary election — the first single-party majority in Ukraine’s modern parliamentary history.
25 July 2019 — Phone call with Donald Trump
Zelenskyy speaks by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump. The White House later releases a memorandum of the call; it becomes the center of Trump’s first impeachment.
9 December 2019 — Normandy-format summit in Paris
Zelenskyy meets Vladimir Putin, Emmanuel Macron, and Angela Merkel in Paris — his only in-person meeting with Putin. A ceasefire agreement is announced but largely fails to hold.
19 February 2022 — Munich Security Conference address
Five days before the full-scale invasion, Zelenskyy addresses the Munich Security Conference, pressing Western partners on security guarantees and sanctions.
24 February 2022 — Full-scale invasion; martial law
Russia launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy declares martial law and general mobilization, and remains in Kyiv as Russian forces advance on the capital.
26 February 2022 — “We are here”
Zelenskyy posts a selfie video from Bankova Street in central Kyiv, flanked by senior officials, declaring “Ми тут” — “We are here.” The video becomes the war’s defining image of Ukrainian resolve.
8–16 March 2022 — Addresses to the UK Parliament and U.S. Congress
Zelenskyy addresses the House of Commons (8 March) and the U.S. Congress (16 March) by video, beginning a series of wartime addresses to legislatures worldwide.
15 November 2022 — The 10-point peace formula
In a video address to the G20 summit in Bali, Zelenskyy presents a 10-point peace formula — the basis of Ukraine’s diplomatic position for ending the war.
21 December 2022 — Washington visit
Zelenskyy makes his first trip abroad since the invasion, meeting President Biden at the White House and addressing a joint meeting of Congress.
8 February 2024 — Zaluzhny replaced by Syrsky
Zelenskyy dismisses Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhny and appoints Oleksandr Syrsky, the most significant wartime change of military command.
15–16 June 2024 — Summit on Peace in Ukraine
Nearly 100 delegations gather at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, for the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, built around Zelenskyy’s peace formula. A joint communiqué addresses nuclear safety, food security, and prisoner exchanges.
