The Lighthouse
The beam that brought him home on storm night. The lighthouse at Faro Point is Rafael Moretti's church — and the one debt he spends his life repaying. Creative interpretation.
Creative interpretation
The tower
Whitewashed stone, terracotta cap, ninety-seven steps Rafael has counted a hundred times and never gotten the same number twice. Automated now — no keeper since before he was born — but the stairs are still climbable, the gallery still catches the whole bay, and someone still climbs it on storm nights. (It’s Rafael.)
The debt
On Storm Night, the beam found him when his lantern died and rode him home. He’s been repaying it ever since: checking the light’s rotation from the water, reporting outages before the harbor office hears, and — town legend insists — talking to it. “The lighthouse does not chase ships,” he says. “It simply shines, and they come home.”
The thinking spot
When a decision matters, Rafael rows out to the point and sits on the rocks below the tower. Big choices get the full sunset. Small choices get ten minutes and a coffee. The crew knows: if Rafael’s been to the lighthouse, the matter is settled. Arguing afterward is just exercise.
The beam
Every night it sweeps the bay — steady, patient, uninterested in applause. Rafael’s whole philosophy in one rotation. See Quotes.
