The peopleThe Circle

Creative interpretation — every person below is invented fan lore. The official card names no one.

June Park — the assistant

Holds the clipboard, calls the gusts, talks Nico off ladders. The only person allowed to say “done” before the truck arrives. Has never once been wrong about it.

Marcus Webb — the curator

Gave Nico his first show after the ceiling-fan incident. Still tells the story at every opening. Nico still pretends to be embarrassed. He isn’t.

Petra Voss — the rival

Kinetic sculptor, motor-driven, precision-obsessed — everything Nico isn’t. Their public debates (“wind vs. wire”) are gallery legend. Privately, they trade sketches.

The five-year-old critic

Unnamed, unquoted in full (privacy), but immortal: declared Red Kite Morning “better than the dinosaurs.” The quote is framed in the Windshop.

The pigeon

Also unnamed. Destroyer of The Pigeon Incident. Banned from the studio, present at every outdoor install. Nico respects it. Nico will never admit this on the record.

Gerald — the drill press

Not a person. Treated as one. Patted before every difficult bore. Blamed for everything, responsible for nothing, beloved by all.

People think the mobiles are a solo act. They’re not. June holds the ladder, Marcus holds the door open, Petra holds me accountable, and Gerald holds the drill bit. I just hold the wire and take the bows. Worst deal on the team, honestly. Best team in the world.
