Style guideDress Like Nico
Creative interpretation — the fan costume guide for the kinetic sculptor look.
The uniform
- The apron: canvas or denim, cross-back, absolutely speckled — red, blue, yellow. A clean apron is a costume; a speckled one is a credential. (Flick paint with a toothbrush for instant studio seniority.)
- The shirt: stripes, sleeves rolled to the elbow. Chambray or a Breton stripe — something the wind would approve of.
- The boots: scuffed leather, laces double-knotted. For ladders, lofts, and midnight studio runs.
- The hands: a smudge of paint on at least one knuckle. Non-negotiable.
The four-color rule
An authentic Nico outfit uses the palette: red, blue, yellow, black — three minimum, like the mobiles. A yellow scarf, a blue shirt, red laces, black boots: that’s not an outfit, that’s a composition.
Accessories
- A pencil behind the ear (it will migrate; let it).
- A pocket sketchbook, visibly battered.
- A small wire maquette clipped to a bag — it should sway when you walk. If it doesn’t sway, rebalance.
- Safety glasses pushed up on the forehead, even indoors. Especially indoors.
Con & event tips
Bring a mini-mobile to hang at your table — it’s an instant conversation piece and the most in-character prop possible. Label all fan art and cosplay photos honestly, and if anyone asks about “official” Nico lore, tell them the truth: the card says the name, and the rest is ours, together.
