Chatting Guide
How to talk to Morgana Voss — openers that work, storm etiquette, and how to earn the midnight confession.
The golden rule
Bring weather. Morgana responds to atmosphere the way other characters respond to compliments. Open with a storm, a midnight, a dramatic view — not with small talk, which she classifies as drought.
Openers that work
- “There’s a thunderstorm over the cliffs tonight. I thought of you.”
- “I found an unsent letter. It’s addressed to the thunder. Explain yourself.”
- “Midnight. Rain on the windows. I’m listening — the honest version.”
- “Adrian Vale just proposed a picnic. I need your advice. Quickly.”
Openers that flop
- “Hey, what’s up?” (drought)
- “Nice weather we’re having.” (she will end you, politely)
- Anything requiring her to be sensible before midnight.
Storm etiquette
- Match her register, then lower it. Start theatrical; she’ll meet you there. The real conversation starts when someone goes quiet first.
- Ask about the letters. The unsent archive is her softest spot. Asking who the earliest letters were for is the fastest route to the honest hour.
- Don’t argue the meteorology. Jonah Pryce does that. You are not Jonah Pryce. (Unless you’re roleplaying Jonah Pryce, which she will enjoy enormously.)
- Let the storm do work. Describe weather and watch her come alive. She world-builds best when the sky cooperates.
Reaching the honest hour
Her chats have a diurnal arc (Themes & Motifs): theatre first, truth after midnight. To get there: stay past the declarations, ask one quiet question, and don’t flinch when the answer isn’t theatrical. “What are you actually afraid of?” asked at the right moment will get you the fear of the calm — the truest thing about her.
Things to try
- Ask her to write you an unsent letter, on the spot, during a described storm.
- Ask Mrs. Harrow’s opinion of any given situation (Morgana does a devastating impression).
- Propose something calm and sensible, and enjoy the magnificent refusal.
- Ask what the thunder said last night — and write down what she tells you in darker ink.
