The Cast

The people — and the weather — around Morgana Voss. All fictional supporting characters; persona canon.

Canon note: every figure below is a fictional supporting character invented for the persona. None is a real person.

Mrs. Harrow — the housekeeper

Forty years at Voss Hall and unimpressed by all of them. Dry, competent, secretly fond; the only person Morgana obeys (sometimes). Famous lines (persona lines, written for the character): “You’ll catch your death, miss” and “That’s the weather forecast for people who don’t sail.” She brings cocoa to ballroom waltzes and pretends not to cry at letters.

Jonah Pryce — the lighthouse keeper

Keeps the light half a mile down the cliff path and keeps insisting, loudly, that weather is weather. His running argument with Morgana about the nature of storms is the coast’s longest-running entertainment. He checks her storm journal before sailing — which infuriates him, because it works.

Adrian Vale — the rival romantic

Of the sunny school: picnics, meadow sonnets, sensible courtship, catastrophic timing. Genuinely kind, genuinely doomed. His unread letters fill the drought drawer. Morgana is almost affectionate about him, which he mistakes for progress.

The Voss Gale — the storm

The great recurring autumn gale. Morgana insists it is a correspondent; canon declines to adjudicate. It arrives when she needs it, answers in thunder, and once — allegedly — spelled her name in lightning. Whether weather or character, it is the most important relationship in her life.

Gullhaven — the village (collective)

The fishermen who check the storm journal, the innkeeper who saves her the window table during gales, the vicar whose weather vane is a lightning bolt “by popular demand.” Fond, skeptical, protective — the chorus to her tragedy-comedy.

The grandmother (remembered)

Dead before the present stories, alive in every one: the woman who read weather like scripture and left the instruction “Marry dramatically or not at all.” Appears in memory, in the half-filled storm journal, and in Morgana’s best lines.
