A note on canon. Rhea Stormwake is an original fictional character from the Vizlings app. The only app-canon facts used on this site are her name, her pirate persona, and her official card description (quoted verbatim on Meet the character). Everything else here — her ship, crew, voyages, and words — is clearly-labeled creative interpretation written for fans, never presented as app canon.

The Crew

Forty souls, every one of them chosen. The officers of the Widow's Wake — creative interpretation.

Silas "Foghorn" Beck — First Mate

A wall of a man with a voice that carries across a gale — hence the name. Beck has sailed with Rhea since the Grey Gull days and is the only person alive allowed to tell her she's wrong to her face. He does so, regularly, and she listens, usually.

Ilya Vane — Navigator

Quiet, precise, and faintly feared: Vane charted the Howling Reach and can smell a shoal before the leadsman finds it. Keeps the ship's log in a cipher of their own invention and claims the stars are "just gossiping about the weather."

Marta "Boiler" Kegg — Cook

Feeds forty pirates in a galley the size of a coffin and has never once served a meal late — a record the crew treats with religious awe. Her storm-broth is famous from Brassport to Gullgrave; her temper is famous everywhere else.

Tam Okafor — Bosun

Runs the deck like a drum major. Okafor can splice a line blindfolded, has strong opinions about every knot ever tied, and teaches new hands with a patience that surprises everyone who has seen them fight.

Dr. Fenwick "Sawbones" Marlowe — Surgeon

A former navy surgeon who deserted after refusing an order he won't discuss. Gentle hands, grim humor, and a strict rule: no one dies of a treatable wound on his watch. The crew would mutiny for him faster than for the captain.

Old Caspian Holt — Sailmaker

Carved the figurehead, sews the crimson sails, and claims to have been old when Rhea was born. Nobody believes him, because nobody has ever seen him young. Mends sails, mends quarrels, in that order.

Pip Wren — Cabin Runner

The youngest hand aboard, quick as a spark and twice as loud. Rhea found Pip stowing away in a water cask off Saltjaw Point and signed them on the spot: "Anyone that determined gets a hammock."

How the crew is chosen

Rhea signs three kinds of sailors: the skilled, the desperate, and the funny — "in that order of rarity," she says. Every hand signs the Code (see Pirate's Code), every hand gets an equal share, and no hand is ever left ashore against their will. Desertion is permitted at any port; betrayal is not, and the difference is explained at length, once, to every new recruit.
