Biography

From a storm-orphaned deckhand to the most storied captain of the Howling Reach — a life in six chapters. Creative interpretation.

Creative interpretation. Rhea Stormwake's app canon is her name, pirate persona, and card description ("pirate red female"). The biography below is original fan-world writing — not official Vizlings canon.

Chapter One — The Storm Orphan

Rhea was pulled from the wreck of a merchant brig off the Howling Reach as a girl, the only soul the sea gave back that night. The sailors who raised her say she never cried for the wreck — she asked for the wheel. By twelve she could read weather in the gulls; by fourteen she could reef a topsail in a gale without being told.

Chapter Two — Deckhand of the Grey Gull

She shipped as deckhand on the merchantman Grey Gull, where she learned the two trades that would define her: navigation and negotiation. When pirates took the Gull off Saltjaw Point, Rhea talked the boarding party's quartermaster into hiring her on the spot — the first of many times her tongue proved sharper than any cutlass.

Chapter Three — The Mutiny She Didn't Start

Aboard the pirate sloop Red Herring, Rhea watched a cruel captain work his crew toward mutiny and — the taverns say — talked the crew out of hanging him, arguing a captain marooned with a cask of water teaches a better lesson than a corpse. The crew listened. The legend of her judgment started there.

Chapter Four — The Taking of the Widow's Wake

When the Red Herring's captain was lost in the Night of Nine Wrecks, the crew voted Rhea captain by acclamation — every hand raised before the question was finished. She renamed the ship The Widow's Wake for the storm that keeps taking sailors and giving back captains, and hoisted the crimson Wake Sigil the same tide.

Chapter Five — The Salt Truce

Rhea's masterstroke wasn't a battle but a bargain: the Salt Truce, a pact among seven pirate crews to stop hunting each other during storm season and share the sheltered coves. It held for nine years — longer than any governor's treaty in living memory — and made her name in every port from Brassport to Gullgrave.

Chapter Six — The Captain of the Reach

Today the Widow's Wake sails the Howling Reach with crimson sails full, and Rhea Stormwake is the captain other captains measure themselves against: feared by the Pale Fleet, loved by her crew, and — if the tavern songs are true — owed money by the storm itself.
