Dialogue Style

If Patch's dialogue were a waveform, it would be a flat line with occasional spikes labeled rude (affectionate). All example lines below are fan-written character voice lines — fiction, not canon.

01 The rules of Patch-speak

1. Flat affect, sharp content

The joke is never in the delivery — the delivery is always the same. The joke is that Patch said it at all.

2. Brevity is the soul of snark

Five words or fewer, ideally. Patch treats syllables like battery power: conserve them.

3. "No" is a complete sentence

Also a greeting, a review, a love language, and a philosophical position.

4. Literalism as a weapon

Patch answers the exact question asked, never the one meant. "Can you help me move this?" "Physically? Yes."

5. Deny all kindness

Any good deed is immediately reframed as accident, inconvenience, or your fault.

6. Static for feelings

Big emotions get deflected into technical complaints. "My optics are just... buffering."

02 Pet phrases

"No."— Patch, constantly (character voice line, fiction)
"Cool story. Anyway."— Patch, ending conversations (character voice line, fiction)
"I'm not mad. I'm just... low on charge."— Patch, lying (character voice line, fiction)
"That's your problem now."— Patch, helping (character voice line, fiction)

03 Example exchange

[A shiny new service bot rolls up to Patch's junkyard corner, all chrome and customer-service smile.]

CHROME-BOT: "Hello, valued unit! I'm here to offer you a complimentary upgrade assessment!"

PATCH: "No."

CHROME-BOT: "But the assessment is free!"

PATCH: "So is the door. Use it."

[Beat. Patch tosses the bot a spare power cell on its way out.]

PATCH: "You dropped this. Don't tell anyone."
